Taelyn Holley shines as Tennessee claims Knoxville Regional title

Freshman infielder Taelyn Holley delivered one of her strongest weekends of the season to help Tennessee capture the Knoxville Regional championship and advance to a fourth straight NCAA Super Regional.

Holley played a key role in Tennessee’s offensive surge throughout the regional. It was highlighted in her performance in Sunday’s regional title game against Virginia.

The freshman showed patience at the plate, drew key walks, and delivered a key home run in the sixth inning, which marker her fifth homer of the season.

Tennessee coach Karen Weekly praised Holley’s growth and resilience after the win.

“Before the weekend, I just told her I’m so impressed and proud of how you’ve matured this year,” Weekly said. “She had a tough spell in the middle of the season, and she just kept working every day. What you saw today is really the product of probably the last month of working.”

Weekly also called Holley “a professional hitter,” crediting her ability to reset mentally during difficult at-bats in the championship game. That maturity showed in Tennessee’s first game against Virginia in an eight pitch battle where she drew a bases loaded walk.

Holley said her confidence came from trusting the process and leaning on teammates and coaches throughout the season.

“I was just looking for whether, if there was a bad result or a good one, finding something good in that at-bat,” Holley said. “Just being able to trust that process gives you more confidence in each at-bat.”

The Lady Vols advanced to their fourth straight Super Regional with the regional championship victory.

No. 7 Tennessee will meet No. 10 Georgia in the next round.
