Tennessee quarterback Faizon Brandon went down with an apparent upper body injury early in the second quarter against Texas.
He was able to walk off under his own power into the medical tent.
He returned to the game later that quarter.
Brandon was tackled by multiple Texas defenders and became tangled with one of his offensive linemen at the end of the play. The freshman quarterback was visibly shaken up afterward and remained on the field as Tennessee’s medical staff evaluated him.
Brandon eventually left the field and entered Tennessee’s medical tent for further evaluation.
George MacIntyre replaced Brandon at quarterback for the Vols.
MacIntyre entered facing third down and initially looked to throw before scrambling for a short gain. Tennessee punted following the play.
There was no immediate update on Brandon’s status.
Then after Tennessee’s Kayin Lee intercepted a deep pass by Arch Manning, MacIntyre trotted out onto the field with the rest of the offense.
Brandon left the game with 13:47 left in the half and returned with 8:28 to go!
Tennessee and Brandon take over at the Tennessee 8-yard line.
The very first play back was a run play by the freshman quarterback for seven yard gain. He remained in the game through the rest of the quarter into halftime.
