Lady Vols land international guard Irene Oboavwoduo in 2026 class

Tennessee women’s basketball added to its future backcourt with a commitment from international guard Irene Oboavwoduo, the program’s second pledge in the 2026 high school class.

Oboavwoduo, a 5-foot-10 guard from Great Britain, previously signed with Boston College before reopening her recruitment and choosing Tennessee.

She has represented Great Britain at multiple levels for much of her high school career. Most of which has come on the youth level from 2022-25.

Mostly recently with a senior national team call-up for the EuroBasket 2027 qualifiers. She averaged 11.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists at the 2025 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket Division B tournament.

Oboavwoduo also captained Great Britain’s U16 team to a bronze medal at the 2024 EuroBasket.

Before Decommitting from Boston College, then head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee said this about the young guard.

“Irene is a long, versatile wing with a natural feel for the game. She plays with a maturity beyond her years, has a smooth mid-range game, and is a relentless rebounder. Her instincts, pace, and unselfishness make her a great fit for our system.”

Her international experience should not affect NCAA eligibility if amateur status is maintained, and she is expected to have four years of eligibility.

She joins fellow high school signee Gabby Minus and five incoming transfers as coach Kim Caldwell continues reshaping the roster.
