Tennessee Hosts Oklahoma in Primetime “Dark Mode” Showdown

Tennessee returns to Neyland Stadium under the lights for a primetime clash, hosting Oklahoma in this year’s highly anticipated “Dark Mode” matchup.

Saturday marks the second meeting between the programs in Knoxville, following a double-overtime thriller in their first encounter.

The Sooners arrive with one of the nation’s top-ranked defenses and dynamic quarterback in John Mateer, promising another high-stakes battle for the Volunteers.

“Excited to be back in Neyland, see our fans, Dark Mode,” head coach Josh Heupel said. “We need the Neyland Effect to be a huge part of this football game on Saturday night.”

Since debuting in 2021, the “Dark Mode” game has become one of Tennessee’s most electric traditions.

For seniors like tight end Miles Kitselman and linebacker Jeremiah Telander, the game carries extra significance.

It’s their last opportunity to experience the once-a-year night-game thrill.

“There’s something different about it,” Kitselman said. “Letting it build up all day.”

Telander added, “This is what college football is all about. I love these jerseys. You only wear them once a year, so it’s special.”

The all-black uniforms, paired with the charged atmosphere, create a unique environment for Tennessee to leverage its home-field advantage.

Heupel hopes the tradition continues to inspire the team as they chase playoff positioning.

“As we get ready for Saturday, the goal is to use this energy to our advantage,” Heupel said. “Our fans make a difference, and we need that impact in a big way.”

The Vols’ return to Neyland comes at a critical time in the season. With the playoff race still alive, Tennessee will rely on the intensity of the “Dark Mode” atmosphere to spark the kind of performance needed to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Kickoff is set for Saturday night.
