Boo Carter back to normal with Tennessee Football

Week Two of Tennessee Football fall camp started on a positive note for defensive back Boo Carter.

The sophomore returned to the practice field with his teammates Tuesday morning and was a full participant with on-field warm-ups and drills. The Vols’ fifth practice of fall camp looked a lot different than the first one for Carter as he worked his way back to the team.

Carter reportedly missed summer workouts and team events in the days leading up to fall camp.

As fall camp started, Head Coach Josh Heupel made it clear camp would look a lot different for Carter.

“Boo is a part of our team here,” Heupel said during the annual Tennessee media day press conference on Tuesday. “There’s some things that he’s got to accomplish to get back on the field with us. Don’t have a set timeline on that.”

Through the first couple of practices Carter was hardly involved. He wasn’t wearing a helmet like the rest of his teammates and spent most of the time doing individual work with Tennessee staffers.

On Saturday, he was seen with a helmet on for the first time and the following day he added shells to his attire, another sign of positive progress.

“Our leadership council has been a part of those things, those discussions with me and with Boo. I’m proud of what they’ve done. They care and love Boo and want him to be his best too,” Heupel added.

Still, the details of his true progress and reinstallment with the team remain unclear.

“I’m not getting into all the details of everything. He’s here. He’s with us. Each day we’ll figure out what comes next,” said Heupel during the media day.

The question of whether we will see Carter involved in offensive drills while practice is open to the media seems unlikely.

“We’re going to take it slow here in the beginning and we’ll figure out where we’re at as we get deeper into camp,” said Heupel.
