Lady Vols’ Kim Caldwell honors her late father in the naming of her son

Lady Vols’ Head Coach Kim Caldwell reveals the joys of motherhood after having her son

Knoxville, Tenn. – Nearly one week ago Lady Vols’ Head Coach Kim Caldwell became a mother when she delivered her son Conor Scott Caldwell.

On January 20th, Kim said she delivered her first child, Conor, who came in at 6 pounds 10 oz. The same height as her late father, Scott.

Kim revealed that’s where her son’s middle name comes from. She said her sister’s child carries the same middle name, as well.

“We say that anyone in the family who has ‘Scott’ as a middle name is a little bit ornery. Just like my dad was,” said Caldwell.

Kim also revealed if they have a daughter one day they’ll name her Scottie to honor her father.

Now, how they got to the spelling of Conor was a result of Kim’s husband, Justin, getting the final say.

“I lost the name drawing twice,” Kim said lightheartedly. She added that she wanted her son’s name to be spelled as ‘Conner’ but her husband won that battle.

After a few short days at home to recover and enjoy new parenthood, she returned to the team on Friday the 24th. Kim revealed what these first days have been like as a newly expanded family.

“How cute and little he is. You can just stare and look at how cute he is all day,” said Kim.

She describes these early days feel like she’s living a “double life,” balancing motherhood and being a head coach. But she was happy to get back with her team.

“It was good. It’s hard to be away from your little one, but you miss your team. And you kind of feel like you just weren’t there for them. So, to be back and to be around them and just back in your routine is good,” said Kim.

While she’s enjoying these precious moments, her team is eager to get their first look at Baby Caldwell. But from the sound of it, that’s not happening any time soon.

“They are. They’re going to have to wait, we have a lot of germs,” exclaimed Kim.

As she’s finding a new balance in life she said she’s blessed to have the support of her mom and said her husband is “doing great” with helping out, as well.

Her sister will come to town next week for added support.

As far as Kim traveling with the team there’s no immediate answer or timeline that’s been shared.
