There is something different about postseason softball at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium, and nobody knows that better than former Tennessee outfielder Rylie West.
When Tennessee earned the No. 7 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, it guaranteed postseason softball would once again run through Knoxville for the 21st straight season. For West, the moment immediately brought back memories of one of the sport’s most electric environments.
“Honestly, Sherri Parker Lee Stadium during postseason is electric,” West said on Live Ball. “I can’t really think of any other word to describe it.”
West said the atmosphere inside the stadium gives Tennessee an advantage that few programs can match.
“The fans, they show up, they’re loud, they’re rowdy, but they’re also just genuinely excited,” West said. “They’re not cheering against anyone, they’re cheering for the Lady Vols.”
The former Lady Vol described the crowd as feeling like “an extra added teammate,” especially in tight postseason moments when momentum can shift instantly.
“You are just one good play away, one hit, one good play away from the momentum shifting because of the crowd noise,” West said.
Tennessee head coach Karen Weekly said the postseason atmosphere continues to grow every season.
“It’s just magical being inside Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in the postseason,” Weekly said. “Every year gets better.”

Weekly said Tennessee’s growing fan support has turned postseason tickets into one of the hottest asks in Knoxville.
“I know it’s going to be a really tough ticket,” Weekly said. “I know my phone’s going to start blowing up asking for tickets, and that’s just great.”
The excitement surrounding the program reflects the continued rise of Tennessee softball. West said that has been rewarding to watch after helping lead the Lady Vols to the Women’s College World Series semifinals in 2023.
“When you put into women’s sports, you see the product come out of it,” West said. “You get elite recruits, you have fans that show up.”
West believes this year’s Tennessee team has the mentality needed for another postseason run.
“We had a chip on our shoulder,” West said of the 2023 squad. “We were not going to lose again in regionals, we were not going to lose in supers.”
Now, the Lady Vols will try to create another memorable postseason chapter in front of a packed home crowd once again inside Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
The title run officially begins Friday evening at 5:30 against NKU.
